12 months ago, a petition to force a vote in Congress on Ajit Pai's repeal of network neutrality was introduced. In the last year, a Republican-dominated Congress approved it in the Senate and 180 House members have supported.
The number we need in the House is 218, but we never give up until the lady sings.
We want to give Ajit Pai's FCC a good scare with how close we came, and more importantly, we want to set the table for the 2019 Congress to take decisive action to end the FCC's foolish repeal of an open Internet.
California has been a leader in the fight for net neutrality. Our state bill is waiting on Mozilla vs FCC, the consolidated lawsuit against the FCC.
Our large Congressional delegation has 38 sign-ons to the CRA petition. But not all. Despite more than 4/5 of Californians of all political stripes wanting net neutrality. That ain't democracy.
Many of the holdouts are lame duck Republicanswho we won't be seeing next year. But here in Northern California, we have one Democratic holdout, Rep. Jim Costa in Fresno.
This shouldn't stand. Costa is thwarting the wishes of the vast majority of his constituents, California's Democratic party and the will of the California Legislature.
He works for the people of California, not AT&T. On the anniversary of the petition, we want to make sure he hears from us. Loud and clear.
Take a minute to tell lone California Democratic holdout Jim Costa that we don't want a pay to play Internet.
